These are truly hand crafted Danish quality products involving artistically blown glass, and turned and hand polished hard wood.
LA coffee Tweak products are only incorporating certified hardwood as we do not want to contribute to deforestation. At the same time all production is taking place in Denmark thereby assuring decent conditions for the labour force.
The funnel has approximately the size of Mazzers own plastic 0,4 kg hopper for the Mini and fits Mini, Super Jolly and Major grinders. (Height 120 mm), diameter 150 mm.
As coffee enthusiasts for many years, the acrylic hoppers, and plastic lids on the
Mazzers and other professional grinders, have been a major frustration to us.
Plastic materials are cheap and highly fusible and well suited for mass
production. Unfortunately they have some serious drawbacks. These complex
molecule artificial plastics tend to absorb coffee oils and in time add rancidity to
the beans in the funnel. Not the best choice of material if you want to enjoy the
volatile and complex flavors from a newly roasted and grinded espresso blend.
Apart from the culinary disadvantages to the use of plastics, there are some
mechanical as well. The long term effect of ultra violet light and vibration is a
structural collapse of plastic materials, and from an environmental point of view
the production, use and disposal of such materials is even more disastrous.
No sound choice of material for funnels and lids on high-end coffee
grinders! As a result of that we offer you the glass funnel and the wooden lids
for the Mazzers and other grinders.
We used our prior experience from Hi-Fi tube amplifiers, incorporating hardwood and using radio tube bulbs. The knowledge of glass material being able to withstand vibration and heat, finally led to the new artistically handcrafted glass hopper. The products have been evaluated for more than a year and they truly emphasize the royalty of the Mazzer grinders.
We find the total setup on a Mazzer Mini E displaying a sculptural beauty seldom seen from home kitchen equipment, matching even exhibitionistic and highly tweaked La Pavoni’s and Faema E 61 equipped coffee machines with wooden handles.
Apart from the obvious rise in aesthetics, substantial and positive side effects to the use of the new hopper with lids are:
The glass funnel or the wooden lids should not be cleaned in a dish washing
machine.
When necessary, clean the funnel in medium temperature water with mild soap
and dry it with a cotton dishcloth.
The wooden lids might be gently cleaned with a damp cloth and regularly oiled
on the top using taste and flavour neutral food oil (linseed, corn etc.)
The adhesive tape on the pipe stub of the lower part of the funnel is not to be
removed as it serves to protect the glass from direct contact with the vibrating
metal parts of the grinder.
